Why the Process Matters

How it's made matters as much as what's in it

Our recipes are thoughtfully prepared in small batches and slowly cooked at 200°F — helping ensure your pet gets the full benefit of every ingredient, every time.

400°F
Typical High-Heat Kibble

High-heat processing can break down heat-sensitive vitamins and proteins.

200°F
Pet Wants Dry Food

Slow-cooked at 200°F in small batches — minimal processing that helps safeguard sensitive vitamins and proteins.

Weeks old, not months

With Pet Wants your pet's food is weeks old instead of months — unlike the ultra-processed, overcooked, bulk food you find at big, national retailers.

No fillers. Ever.

Our food has no added sugars, corn, wheat, soy, dyes, or animal by-products. Better for your pet and easier for them to digest.

Ingredient Education

Why "chicken meal" on our label is a good thing

Raw chicken is about 80% water. Once a food is cooked, that water is gone — so a label that leads with "chicken" may really be led by whatever ingredient comes second. Meal is simply real meat, ground fine and gently dried to remove the moisture, so what's first on the label is truly first in the bowl.

  • Concentrated real meat — it takes about 5 lbs of chicken to make 1 lb of chicken meal
  • First ingredient, really — with the water already removed, meal stays the #1 ingredient in the finished food
  • Not a by-product — meal is real meat, simply dried and ground. Pet Wants never uses animal by-products
  • Honestly made — dried with just enough heat to remove moisture, then slow-cooked at 200°F in small batches
"My dog had skin issues for years. Within a month of switching to Pet Wants, his coat is shinier and the scratching has nearly stopped. This food is the real deal."
