Michele Hobbs spent a portion of her Tuesday morning and early afternoon working to fill the bellies of animals whose owners need help feeding them.

One by one, the co-founder of Over-the-Rhine-based Pet Wants and a small group of volunteers removed more than 3,000 pounds – or 1 1/2 tons – of pet food from a Grove Transportation delivery truck Tuesday in Madisonville.

Hobbs said the food delivered in 20-pound bags to the Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry may help the nonprofit organization avoid having to reach deep in its coffers to buy food when the demand is high and donations are light.
